ExSEL Peer Mentors

Peer Mentors provide support to participants in a variety of ways. Their primary responsibility is to provide advice on how to successfully navigate the first year at Michigan Tech. This knowledge might be related to successful study strategies, time management or effective use of resources. In certain instances a mentor may provide one-on-one tutoring.
Examples of recent mentor relationships: The mentor and mentee met for 1-2 hours once a week in the library and studied for their individual classes. It provided both a weekly allotted time for studying and a chance for the mentee and mentor to check in. A mentor provided weekly one-on-one tutoring for a math course. A mentor and mentee ate lunch together regularly to chat and share updates.

The mentors’ primary responsibility is not specifically tutoring, but we do make every effort to locate resources and connect students with the tools they need to be academically successful.
