ExSEL
Each summer five ExSEL participants are awarded an internship in the Michigan Tech community to work in businesses that relate to their major.   These part-time internships provide an opportunity to make a competitive wage and have a real-world, work experience, while still allowing for time to take summer courses.

ExSEL has a partnership with the Keweenaw Economic Development Alliance (KEDA) where businesses are selected.  From more information on KEDA visit their website at http://www.kedabiz.com/.
The application process for students and businesses begins in February each year. 


Snapshots of Summer Internships:

 

Brittany Reid is a sophomore at Michigan Tech in the School of Business.  Brittany was the Business Consulting Intern for Finlandia University’s Jutila Center for Global Design and Business.  The Jutila Center houses a small-business incubator and provides a supportive and creative environment in which to develop business start-ups.  Brittany spent the summer consulting with the centers 19 businesses.  She created marketing plans and implemented them, designed and maintained websites and provided universal support for the center.  

 

 

Dylan Beryle interned for Endres Machining Innovations, LLC (EMI).  Dylan, a first year student, pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering worked with EMI to provide a variety of innovative engineering services.  Dylan is shown here with EMI’s 6-axis lathe/mill machine which he used to create prototypes for testing and light production work.  For more information on EMI, visit their website, http://www.endresmachining.com/.

 

 

Mark Jakupick spent his summer working for Everts Motor Sports.  He is a freshman at Michigan Tech in the School of Business.  Mark provided overall support as the new business owners worked to remarket the business and modernize its operations.  Mark installed new computer and inventory management systems as well as managed finances with QuickBooks.  He assisted in planning an open house, facilitated marketing and provided supervision to maintenance personnel.  For more information on Evert’s visit their website at www.upsnowmobilerentals.com.

 

 

Ashley Benjamin interned at Sounds and Motions.  She is a sophomore at Michigan Tech studying Electrical Engineering Technology.  Ashley spent time working in customer service and sales as well as conducting technology based installations such as remote car starters, radios and other audio devices.  While doing installations Ashley worked with electrical systems that she will also work with in her future years at Michigan Tech.  She is thrilled to have hands-on experience that is relate to her coursework.
